Printmaking Part 3

In this series of prints I finished off the block of MDF to create another print that links with technology and industrial architecture. The piece is to express the digital age though bio-mechanical works though the medium of print.

While I was working on the wood carving I started doing etching on silver card that I had in my house for a while. The way I imagined the piece was to have a split design of one side to have my thoughts of humanity and the other side is a mix of nature and made up forms. 



















The piece taken me two weeks to produce because have to double check the carving of the piece was correct before it needed to be inked up and ready for printing. 

While I was printing this piece a few people did not believe it will print because it does not work the same method as copper, zinc and aluminum plate. However as soon it went though the print press it was able to produce a print and changed peoples thoughts of this material.

Printmaking part 1

The drawing was created for a piece that was going to be carved into a piece of MDF wood. I added peoples heads being drained by attaching peoples heads on pipes all going down to a vortex. I used a mix of nature and industrial architecture to link with the theme. 




















I started out the carving by having a rough outline of the pipes and water going down to a vortex. I could not include too much of the imagery because there was not enough room on the small block of MDF.

The print is only experimental to see if the print-press is on the correct setting and see the depth of the groves after being carved for four hours but also blacken the MDF more before I taken the photo of the block at the top.

I went back carving out the wood block to try add more imagery in the background and add more detail by spending more time. I did add a slight change on the piece then completely follow the drawing because I like to add more textures and pattern behind the design.

loss of our humanity

As I have not had enough time to update the works, had to do lot of written work for the fine art course. This is one of the late works that I keep forgetting to upload on the blog. I came up with this drawing when I was traveling to the university by train early in the morning. The idea I had was to add peoples heads on pipes, combine nature into industrial architecture and have a line of people all acting like "cattle of sheep walking in an straight line to their own demise. This was to carry on with the theme I am developing around the digital age, but given more thought behind the process and ideas of theme and giving it an title of "loss of our humanity. My intention is to illustrate the theme a lot more and developed my own brand of work influenced by music, video games and years of being a introvert.

I added many different painting techniques with the piece that I left for three or four weeks to come up with different methods of producing the piece without adding too much. The painting methods are dabbing, impasto, draw with the whole tube of paint, cross hatching and some throwing of paint to give more character. 

Start of the themes

The design is a collage of left over plaster after I finish the large collage piece that was on metallic board. I added electrical tape and applied a large quantity of red ink. This developed a very interesting contrast from the plaster and the red link to create bloody bandages. 

These charcoal drawings are a mix of other drawings produced in my sketch book enlarged on a A1 size paper. The theme is to look at social media being a powerful tool has the ability of making positive and negative effects towards people. It also a tool used to manipulate people, loose touch of reality and believe on foals information. It also looks at the Internet of being this "large church" where people express their problems to a wider ordinance that takes all kinds of thoughts. The theme is also to express my thoughts of reality and how humanity is driven from the growth of technology.

New location

 

The creation is a quick charcoal drawing on cardboard that I randomly came up with. This is to link with the themes I normally create in a smoke effect.

 To make it "feel like home" I included cut outs of newspaper articles and bands to work along side with the piece, more will be added. This is just to represent myself of what influences my creations.

 When I finished the wall I started producing artwork on thrown out boards found in a skip. On this board that was students work I  improved the design by adding an performance behind the paint strokes with black acrylic paint and then add a whole tube of red and yellow paint.

In this last piece I produced a collage of the left over newspaper, photographs found in the skip, medical badges mixed with plaster found on a polystyrene head also found in a skip all sellotaped on the board with blue oil paint and small amount of charcoal. The reason I added blue is to add a depressive feel to the design as blue is a sad colour.
